Perhaps one of the coolest growth hacks that I’ve discovered is the ability to create a card in Twitter Ads, and use it for free in normal tweets.
Twitter Card Types
With Twitter Lead Generation Cards, users could click a “Subscribe” button to share their email with the advertiser (without having to type it in). Update: Twitter ended the “lead generation” option for Twitter cards in January 2017. The reason being is that the email that users used to register their account was at times a throwaway email, and thus resulted in low email open rates.
Twitter Website cards create a clickable images along with a headline that can be include with tweets
Twitter App Install cards creates an “Install” button to link mobile users to the respective App Stores (Android/iOS).
Time needed: 5 minutes
How to create a Twitter Card
- Go to Twitter Ads (ads.twitter.com)
If you haven’t already, you’ll need to add a payment method to access certain features. You do not need to launch an ad campaign to create a twitter card, however.
- Under the “Creatives” tab, go to cards
- Click on “Create Card” and select which type of card you want.
As of October 2020, there are four different card types: Website cards, Video website Cards, Image App Cards, and Video app cards.
- Add your headline, media, and URL’s to the card
For app install cards, you can select a call to action, primary app store country, and links to Android, iPhone, & iPad apps.
- Select “Create” when finished
You can also preview before finalizing.
- Copy the card’s URL for future use
- Paste Card URL into Tweet
You can also compose tweets from the card manager section. Don’t include other URL’s or images in the tweet, though.
